Vienna is the only million-plus city in Europe in which more people travel by public transport than by car. Wiener Linien is as much a part of Vienna as Wiener Schnitzel or the famous Riesenrad Ferris wheel. The Viennese often make use of the “silver arrows” or the “ULFs” (as ultra low-floor trams are affectionately known); in 2008, we transported over 800 million passengers for the very first time.
Why is this so? We ensure that Vienna’s population can travel safely and reliably to work or school, enjoy leisure activities and return home every day. Mobility is a prerequisite for a stable economy. Indeed, the better and more comprehensive public transport is, the less the road networks contribute to air pollution, helping to improve the environment to the benefit of us all.
Wiener Linien is more than a mode of transport. We give Vienna quality of life!
